Breakthrough of the year
The 2015 Nanonica Prize has been awarded to Prof. Dr. Jos Malda for the development of soft hydrogels reinforced with highly organized, high-porosity microfiber networks that are 3D-printed with a technique termed as melt electrospinning writing. This approach offers a fundament for producing tissue constructs with biological and mechanical compatibility.
The research is detailed in the paper "Reinforcement of hydrogels using three-dimensionally printed microfibres".
